Proud Pleasures: Pump up your salads with Gourmè Mist Balsamic Vinegars

There’s really no faster way to ruin a good salad then to pour heavy dressing over it. Or to pour a careful mix of olive oil and balsamic vinegar only to find out that it still turned your crispy greens into an indescribable mush.

Now I know that this problem could be easily solved by simply picking up one of those salad spritzers that we have all seen on grocery stores shelves - after all, I have not been living under a rock these past few years. But here’s the deal: how many of those can claim to be made with 100% organic extra virgin olive oil or barrel aged Modena balsamic vinegar? Gourmè Mist can.

Pump the bottle, press the nozzle and a fine mist coats your greens with the just right amount of oil or vinegar. Of course, making the perfect dressing is only one way of enjoying Gourmè Mist. Non-aerosol and free of chemical propellants, it’s also an environmentally friendly alternative to cooking sprays. And needless to say, it’s much better for you!

Try their Balsamic Vinegar + Pomegranate or their Balsamic Vinegar + Raspberry - the sweet and tangy taste of these antioxidant-packed fruits will transform even the most ordinary of salads into a culinary experience.

Labor Day weekend fun with Gourmé Mist Olive Oil!

Labor Day weekend fun with Gourmé Mist Olive Oil!

We all know that olive oil has many health benefits and has been known to keep your immune system in top shape but did you know there are many other clever ways to make use of this wonderful ingredient? There are tons of nutritious recipes using olive oil as their healthy compliment, but here at Gourmé Mist, we have discovered several unique ways to add olive oil to your beauty regime.

Olive oil skin care is a natural way to pursue healthy, radiant skin.

Keep your skin hydrated and moisturized by mixing 2 parts Gourmé Mist olive oil, 1 part lavender oil. It is great for your skin, fights wrinkles, and the fragrance is calming. Store your mixture in the refrigerator to keep from getting rancid between uses.

Olive Oil Bath Treatment

Take a relaxing bath, add a couple tablespoons of Gourmé Mist olive oil, and indulge! Afterwards, dry off and take a step further by rubbing a drop of olive oil into trouble areas like knees, elbows, feet, and cuticles. The skin will regain its natural oil balance.

Soft Silky Leave-in Hair Conditioner

We have found that pricey hair moisturizing masks can’t compete with the benefits of olive oil. Spray a generous amount Gourmé Mist olive oil into a small bowl. Microwave the bowl of olive oil for 10 to 15 seconds. Next, spread olive oil evenly through through the hair from root to end. Let hair condition for approximately 20 minutes. Hop in the shower, shampoo, rinse and enjoy softer, healthier hair!

Home Made Night Cream

Mix 2 spritz of Gourmé Mist olive oil with one part vinegar to make a homemade night cream. The olive oil will soften and moisturize while the vinegar will lighten skin discoloration and exfoliate.

Hand Exfoliant

A great way to exfoliate hands and feet is to mix sugar and Gourmé Mist olive oil. Rub the mixture in a circular motion for several minutes and wash off.

Stubble free with Olive Oil

Find yourself out of shaving cream? Olive oil makes a great substitute! Because it is a natural lubricant, the razor will simply glide over the skin. Over time you may even notice your hair growing at a slower pace and often much less irritating razor burn.

These tips should give your skin a natural healthy glow, and now here are a recipe to use any Gourmé Mist olive oil you have to spare!

Olive Oil Cake:

1-cup fresh orange juice

1-teaspoon fine salt

3 large eggs, room temperature

1 1/4 cups whole milk

2 cups sugar

1/4 cup orange liqueur, rum, brandy or whisky

1 1/2 cups Gourmé Mist extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for oiling pans

1 tablespoon lemon zest

2 teaspoons anise seed

2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves, divided

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2-teaspoon baking soda

1/2-teaspoon baking powder

6 tablespoons lemon or orange marmalade

2 fresh rosemary sprigs, for garnish

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Oil 2 (10-inch) round cake pans.

In a nonreactive saucepan, reduce the orange juice over medium heat to 1/4 cup. Add salt, stir, and let cool.

Lightly beat eggs with paddle attachment in standing mixer on high for 1 minute until frothy. Add milk, sugar, liqueur, Gourmé Mist olive oil, reduced orange juice, lemon zest, anise and 1 teaspoon rosemary. Mix for 1 minute until well blended. Mix in the flour, baking soda and baking powder until well blended and smooth.

Pour half of the mixture into each oiled cake pan. Bake for 1 hour. Place on a rack to cool. Run a knife around the edges and place it on a plate. While the cake is still warm, smooth 3 tablespoons of marmalade onto the top of each cake. Sprinkle remaining 1 teaspoon rosemary evenly over both cakes. Garnish center with rosemary sprig. Cut each cake into wedges and serve.
